De La Salle University's Nihon Kenkyu Kai is a professional organization for International Studies majoring in Japanese subjects and culture. On March 19 2011, the NKKi together with Anime Alliance and the Literature Circle, will holdi a Japanese Pop Culture Convention at SM Megatrade from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, entitled “Tamashii Con.” This convention is a large gathering of like-minded groups and individuals celebrating popular culture and its influence in society through such activities as contests, talks, events, the selling of products, and the like. Of course, this will involve the inclusion of anime, cosplay & otaku culture. So come one, come all this MARCH 19!!!

Cosplay Guidelines

COSPLAY COMPETITION GUIDELINES

COSPLAY COMPETITION PROCEDURE

1. All contestants must register at the Cosplay Competition Registration Booth during the day of the convention proper. The registration period is from 12 nn to 3 pm, and will be strictly followed by the Cosplay Committee.

2. NO LATE ENTREES WILL BE ALLOWED.
3. Contestants for the Individual Category must be present at the designated stand-by area at least 30 minutes before the start of the competition. Once the last contestant of the Individual Category has been called, all Group Category participants must assemble in the stand-by area. For all contestants, please ensure that only finishing touches need be done by assembly time to ensure the smooth running of the competition. The Cosplay Judges will already be observing you during this time.

4. Each contestant’s presentation and costume will be assessed by three judges as per the criteria stated in the third section of this document.

5. Prizes must be collected by the winning Cosplayer/Cosplay Group on the same day that the Competition is held. Prizes not collected on the day will be forfeited. Winners shall be announced during the Awarding Ceremony which will be listed in the Convention Schedule and Guide.

COSPLAY COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. The Cosplay Competition is open to individuals of all ages.

2. The competition is on a first-come, first-served basis. All those who wish to participate must register for the competition at the Cosplay Competition Registration Booth to be considered eligible for participation. Only a maximum of10 groups for the Group Category. The maximum number of participants for the Individual Category will be determined during the event proper. During registration, please be prepared to give information such as your name and contact details. This information shall be treated with the utmost confidentiality and will not be passed on to any third parties. This information will only be used by the Nihon Kenkyu Kai, Lit Circle, and Anime Alliance (hereinafter referred to as “the Organizers”) in the event that they need to contact you.

3. Both the Individual and Group Categories will be held on the day of the convention proper, March 19, 2011.

4. Group entries must consist of 3 to 10 members. Any additional members are subject to the Organizers’ approval.

5. The Cosplay Competition as well as the convention is all rated PG-15. Please do not use material that exceeds this rating. Upon registration, all contestants must provide all the necessary information outlined in the registration sheet.

6. All contestants must provide a hard copy of the character they shall be cosplaying at the event.

7. All contestants MUST register at least 1 hour before the start of the competition to be considered eligible for participation.

8. All contestants MUST present themselves in the costume of a character from any genre (be it anime, manga, or video game) as long as said work originated from Japan. CHARACTERS FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE THAT IS UNRELATED TO JAPANESE POP CULTURE SHALL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN THIS COMPETITION.

9. During registration, contestants can only enter the Individual Category ORthe Group Category of the competition. Contestants are allowed to participate in only ONE category of the competition.

10. The Individual and Group contestants will compete in completely separate categories, and shall not be eligible for the same prize.

11. Fan service is allowed provided it complies with the above rule.

12. Should you be using audio for your performances, please ensure they are in .mp3 or .wma format and should be burned into a blank CD. Flashdrives are subject for approval by the technical head for security purposes. Please make sure a representative is present at the technical booth during your performance if multiple tracks will be played.

13. Contestants in each category shall have corresponding time limits for their on-stage performance. Individual Category contestants shall have a maximum of ONE MINUTE for their performance. Group Category contestants shall have a maximum of FIVE MINUTES for their performance. Exceeding the time provided by less than one minute will result in a minimal deduction from the overall score of the contestant. Exceeding the time provided by more than one minute will result in a maximum deduction from the overall score of the contestant or even disqualification.

14. All props must be presented to staff at the Cosplay Competition Registration Desk upon registering for the contest. Failure to present your weapons – even seemingly harmless ones – may result in your entry being removed and you may even be escorted from the premises.

15. If the Cosplay Committee judges a weapon or prop as harmless, you are free to carry it around with you for the full duration of the event. However, if a weapon or prop is judged to be potentially harmful for general use, then it will be placed in weapon and props storage for the duration of the event until the competition proper.

16. Dangerous articles such as metallic weaponry (swords, knives, etc.), firearms, and pyrotechnics of ANY kind that may cause damage to the venue or harm to fellow cosplayers and/or event staff and attendees are strictly NOTallowed as props for the Cosplay Competition. Any articles made from any other material such as cardboard, PVC, Styrofoam, etc. are allowed to be used as props for the competition.

17. Tamashii Con Staff and Volunteers are NOT eligible to participate in the Cosplay Competition.

18. The Organizers reserve the right to adjust the rules of this competition in any way it sees fit and disqualify any entry for non-compliance with the rules and regulations outlined in this document.

19. Permission is granted to the Organizers to use the costumes photographed/filmed during the contest for future promotions of Tamashii Con.

20. The Organizers reserve the right to refuse entry/display of any costumes entered into the competition that they deem inappropriate. The Organizers also reserve the right to cut short any acts that they deem to be inappropriate. The Organizers also reserve the right to disqualify any contestants within reason. All of the Organizers’ decisions are final.

21. By entering the competition, the participant agrees to abide by all the terms and conditions as set out in this document. Participants who do not follow these rules will be disqualified.

COSPLAY COMPETITION JUDGING CRITERIA

The cosplayers in both categories shall be judged using the following criteria:
40% - Craftsmanship
30% - Accuracy
20% - Stage Performance
10% - Audience Impact

1. Prizes will be awarded for First Place, Second Place, and Third Place in the Individual Category. Only a Grand Prize Winner will be selected in the Group Category.

BAGGAGE COUNTER GUIDELINES

1. A baggage counter is available for participants in the cosplay contest to leave their belongings.

2. The Organizers only allot the baggage counter for REGISTEREDcosplayers with certain exceptions in no uncertain terms.

3. We are implementing a ONE-TIME DEPOSIT POLICY wherein contestants/cosplayers can only deposit their baggages ONCE. Re-depositing of items will not be entertained by the Baggage Counter after it has refused receiving items.

4. Cosplayers should only deposit once they are sure. Please avoid installment deposits. Deposited items cannot be claimed or even touched by the owner up until the duration of the Cosplay Competition with certain exceptions in no uncertain terms.

5.  If cosplayer/contestant decides to claim his/her baggage earlier than the claim time, they may do so by agreeing with the ONE-TIME DEPOSIT POLICYof the Organizers.

6. Your COSPLAYER NUMBER is your CLAIM TAG. Make sure to take care of your cosplayer number. A NO ID, NO CLAIM policy is strictly implemented.

7. In cases of lost ID, please inform an Event Marshal or preferably an Event Official immediately.

8. Non-deposited items within the Cosplayer’s Area or the event itself is not our responsibility.

9. Baggage Counter is open from the start of the event and shall start to refuse deposits 30 minutes AFTER the Cosplay Registration cut-off is implemented.

10. During claiming, personal information may be asked for security purposes. The Baggage Counter reserves the right to refuse suspicious bags/items that may endanger our staff or anyone else within the area. Authority figures may also be asked to check upon the said item for security purposes.

11. The Baggage Counter does not accept the deposit of perishable goods such as food and similar items.

12. DO NOT DEPOSIT YOUR BAGS/ITEMS WITH YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS and VALUABLES INSIDE.  The Organizers are not liable for any damages and losses to it. Please be responsible.

13. In general, the Organizers are not liable for any damages to your items during its stay within the baggage area.

Karaoke Guidelines





Tamashii Con
Karaoke / J-Pop Anime Singing Contest




Mechanics: 
1. The registration will be on the day itself and will be limited for the first 15 participants.


2. The song must be in Japanese (anime, game, J-pop, J-rock). A maximum of 5 minutes will be given to each contestant.


3. The lyrics of the chosen song must be memorized. Reading a copy of the lyrics is not allowed.


4. The contestant must submit 3 copies of the lyrics for the judges and a CD with the instrumental/karaoke of the song. Only original karaoke/instrumental will be allowed.


5. The contestant may dance and wear a costume but it is not required.


6.  Punctuality must be observed. The contestant will be given 3 minutes to come up on stage. Failure to do so will result to disqualification. The contestants will be called according to their registration numbers.


7. The criteria for judging are the following:


a. Voice Quality (20%)
b. Rhythm and Intonation (20%)
c. Diction (20%)
d. Overall Impact (30%)
e. Audience Impact (10%)


8. Violation of any of the rules stated above will mean disqualification.


9. The grand winner will receive P1000 cash while the other participants will be given consolation prizes.


10. Nihon Kenkyu Kai, Anime Alliance, and LitCircle may take pictures of the contestants and use it for future publicity purposes.

Event Info

Tamashii means "Soul"

The word "tamashii" was used because of randomness and its awesomeness to emphasize our aim which is "reviving Japan's 80's and 90's". It is an event that would educate us by tackling Japanese culture from then to now.


The event named "Tamashii Con" or in short "Tamacon" will be held at SM Megatrade Hall 3, 5th Floor, Building B of SM Megamall at Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines.


The event will start as soon as the mall opens and will end at 8:30 in the evening.


Several activities will be happening from 10-8:30 such as trivia contests, band performances, and speakers who'll be discussing more about Japanese culture.


The event will also have its Individual and Group Cosplay category
